Four Decades for Justice
February 4, 2014
On January 29, 2014, Cravath was named “Securities Firm of the Year” at the second annual Benchmark Litigation U.S. Awards, held in New York City. The award was given based on the significance and quality of the Firm’s work during 2013 and marks the second consecutive year in which Cravath has been awarded for securities litigation by Benchmark (see here). Cravath partner Antony L. Ryan accepted the award on behalf of the Firm.
Cravath also received the “National Impact Case of the Year” award for its successful representation of Royal Dutch Shell in Kiobel v. Royal Dutch Petroleum before the Second Circuit Court of Appeals, which ruled that corporations cannot be held liable under the Alien Tort Statute (“ATS”) for violations of customary international law. The dismissal of ATS claims against Royal Dutch Shell was ultimately affirmed by the U.S. Supreme Court. Rowan D. Wilson, who handled the Second Circuit argument, accepted the award on behalf of the team.
