Four Decades for Justice
Cravath was named the top “Heavyweight Champion” in litigation in the Financial Times 2013 U.S. Innovative Lawyers Report, published on November 21. The Firm’s innovative approaches to securities litigation on behalf of Vivendi and JPMorgan Chase were recognized.
Cravath ranked as the number one “standout” in the Litigation category for successfully defending Vivendi at trial in a securities fraud action brought by Gamco investors. The accompanying article noted that the Firm achieved this win by rebutting the fraud-on-the-market presumption of reliance, “a fraud theory that had dominated class action cases since 1987.” Cravath partner Timothy G. Cameron was quoted in the article. The Financial Times also recognized Cravath’s novel approach to the issue of standing in defending JPMorgan Chase in residential mortgage-backed securities cases, which has set important precedent for similar matters being litigated throughout the United States.
Overall, Cravath ranked third among the “FT 40: U.S. Law Firm Innovators 2013” based on the originality, rationale and impact of the Firm’s litigation and corporate work.
