Christine Beshar serves as Senior Counsel in Cravath’s Trusts and Estates Department. She retired from the Firm on December 31, 1999, was named Of Counsel in 2000 and was named Senior Counsel in 2009. Ms. Beshar’s practice focused on serving as the advisor to individuals, families, corporations, partnerships and not-for-profit organizations seeking to achieve their philanthropic, estate planning and charitable goals.
In addition to her legal work, she is a fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel. From 1983 to 2009, Ms. Beshar was named in The Best Lawyers in America.
Ms. Beshar was born in Paetzig, Germany. She received a B.A. from Smith College in 1953 and read for the New York Bar prior to her admission in 1960. Prior to joining Cravath, she clerked in a law firm in New York. Ms. Beshar joined Cravath in 1964 and became a partner in 1971—the first woman elected partner at Cravath.
