When the Cravath Children’s Center opened in 1989, it was the first employer-run, on-site child care facility in New York City. This special place, recently renamed The Christine Beshar Children’s Center, is available free of charge to all employees and provides back-up child care when regular child care arrangements fail—for example, if a child’s school is closed or work requires the employee parent to be at the office on a weekend or holiday. Upon returning to work after the birth or adoption of a child, parents may also bring their child to the Children’s Center on a regular basis for up to six months. The Children’s Center includes a dedicated infant area as well as separate preschool and school-age sections. It is open on weekdays from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., and on weekends and holidays from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

In January 2010, the Children’s Center adopted a new name in honor of its founder, Christine Beshar. When Christine Beshar was elected the first female Partner at the Firm, she paved the way for working mothers at Cravath. With four children, a successful career and a husband with a demanding career of his own, Christine raised the issue regarding the challenges that parents encounter when raising children while working full time. Her own experiences led her to envision a place that Cravath employees could rely upon to watch their children in an emergency. The concept behind the Cravath Children’s Center has become the model for many other organizations that recognize the scheduling and balancing challenges that many employees with children face.

The Christine Beshar Children’s Center is a friendly, safe and fun place where children feel comfortable and parents are confident that their children are nearby and well cared for. The Center is licensed by the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, Bureau of Day Care, and the New York State Office of Children and Family Services, School Age Child Care Programs.
