On June 4, 2019, Cravath partner David J. Kappos testified at a hearing before the United States Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on Intellectual Property in Washington, D.C. Dave, the former Under Secretary of Commerce and Director of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, spoke at the hearing, entitled “The State of Patent Eligibility in America: Part I,” about the laws that govern the types of inventions that are considered patent eligible, including the current approach to Section 101 of the U.S. Patent Act and its implications for technological innovation.
