On November 30, 2016, Cravath partner John D. Buretta participated in the “33rd International Conference on the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act,” hosted by the American Conference Institute and held November 29 ‑ December 2, 2016, in Washington, D.C. John moderated a panel entitled “Interacting with Foreign Government Decision‑Makers: How to Manage High Stakes, Critical Areas of Your Business That Depend on Local Government Interaction and Approvals,” which discussed ways to manage bribery risks posed by permit, licensing, customs clearance, financial, tax and other interactions with regulatory officials; what steps organizations should take when they are approached by regulatory and enforcement officials; how companies can prepare employees for an inquiry or investigation; and when to retain outside counsel.
