Four Decades for Justice
June 10, 2014
On June 5, 2014, Cravath partner John D. Buretta participated in “Criminal Enforcement of Environmental Laws,” a program presented by The American Law Institute Continuing Legal Education Group and held in Washington, D.C. John moderated a panel entitled “The Deepwater Resolutions and Their Implications.” Through questioning of the panelists, John addressed defense strategy in the context of an environmental incident involving multiple potentially culpable parties, the implications of the Sentencing Guidelines on the assessment of criminal fines as to a significant environmental event and the future implications for companies of the Deepwater corporate and individual criminal prosecutions for obstruction of justice post‑incident.
