Katherine Forrest Authors Three‑Part Series on Artificial Intelligence and the Law for the New York Law Journal

Cravath partner Katherine B. Forrest, former U.S. District Judge for the Southern District of New York and former Deputy Assistant Attorney General in the Antitrust Division of the U.S. Department of Justice, authored a three‑part series for the New York Law Journal, which discussed the relationship between the First, Fourth and Sixth Amendments to artificial intelligence. The articles, entitled “When AI Speaks, Is It Protected?,” “Artificial Intelligence and the Fourth Amendment: When Alexa Can Be a Witness Against You,” and “AI and the Confrontation Clause,” discuss issues including the applicability of free speech protections to artificially intelligent devices, the use of evidence harvested from artificial intelligence and whether humanity is an essential characteristic for courtroom witnesses.
