Four Decades for Justice
On November 17, 2016, Cravath partner Keith R. Hummel participated in “Patent Litigation 2016,” which was presented by the Practising Law Institute and held in New York City. Keith spoke on a panel entitled “Delivering an Effective Opening Statement in Patent Cases (Plaintiff v. Defendant)” and, as part of a live demonstration for the audience, delivered an opening statement for a defendant in a mock patent case. The panel then discussed the most important components of an opening statement, as well as how to use the opening statement to distill complex subject matter, provide a roadmap for the jury to follow and illuminate the key issues of the case.
