Four Decades for Justice
Cravath partner Keith R. Hummel participated in “Patent Litigation 2017: Advanced Techniques & Best Practices,” a conference presented by the Practising Law Institute and held November 15-16, 2017, in New York City. Keith spoke on a panel entitled “Delivering an Effective Opening Statement in Patent Cases,” and, as part of a live demonstration for the audience, delivered an opening statement for a defendant in a mock patent case. The panel then discussed the crucial components of an opening statement, as well as how to use the opening statement to simplify complex subject matter, provide a guide for the jury to follow and highlight the key issues of the case.
