Four Decades for Justice
During her State of the Judiciary address on February 26, 2020, Chief Judge of the State of New York Janet DiFiore announced that a new journal volume prepared by retired Cravath partner and chair of the New York State Judicial Institute on Professionalism in the Law Paul C. Saunders, entitled “Legal Skills and Professional Values: A Handbook,” will be distributed to all attorneys upon admission to the New York Bar. The handbook is intended to assist law students and lawyers in developing the professional skills needed for competent and ethical participation in our legal profession and in understanding the values on which the profession is based.
“One of the reasons the Handbook is so valuable is its broad vision of what it means to be a lawyer,” said Judge DiFiore. “While it addresses skills and competencies required to practice law and represent clients, the Handbook makes clear that being a good lawyer requires more than technical skills.”
