George J. Gillespie, III serves as Special Counsel in Cravath’s Trusts and Estates Department. He retired from the Firm on December 31, 2005, and was named Special Counsel in 2006. Mr. Gillespie worked primarily with the Firm’s private clients.
Mr. Gillespie is Co‑Founder and Chair of the Oversight Committee of the Corinne Goldsmith Dickinson Center for Multiple Sclerosis at Mt. Sinai Hospital, Trustee Emeritus of the Jackson Laboratory, a Board Member and Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Madison Square Boys & Girls Club, Chairman Emeritus of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society and Trustee Emeritus of the Paley Center for Media.
Mr. Gillespie was born in New York. He received an A.B. magna cum laude from Georgetown University in 1952 and an LL.B. magna cum laude from Harvard Law School in 1955, where he was a Case Editor of the Law Review and received a Sheldon Traveling Fellowship. Mr. Gillespie joined Cravath in 1956 and became a partner in 1963.
