Herbert L. Camp retired from Cravath’s Tax Department in 1999. At the time of his retirement, Mr. Camp was Chair of the Tax Department. His practice encompassed general corporate taxation, international taxation matters, corporate finance, mergers and acquisitions and employee benefits.
Mr. Camp serves on the Board of Directors of Sarkes Tarzian, Inc. and the Board of Directors of DMI Holdings, Inc.
Among other charitable activities, Mr. Camp currently serves as President of the Board of Trustees of Fay School in Southborough, Massachusetts, Chair of the Board of Directors of Volunteers of America of Greater New York, Chair of the Board of The Royal Oak Foundation and Co‑Chair of The Greater Irvington Land Conservancy Foundation, Inc.
Mr. Camp was a long‑standing member of the New York State Bar Association, where he was the Chair of the Tax Section from 1988 to 1989, and of the New York City Bar Association, where he was the Chair of the Council on Taxation from 1995 to 1996. He has also been a member of the American Bar Association and the International Bar Association.
Mr. Camp was born in New York, New York. He received a B.A. magna cum laude from Williams College in 1961, an M.A. from Yale University in 1962 and an LL.B. from Yale Law School in 1965. Before joining Cravath, Mr. Camp served as a law clerk to Hon. J. Joseph Smith of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.
Mr. Camp joined Cravath in 1966. He practiced with another law firm from 1975 to 1987, and rejoined Cravath as a partner in 1987.
