Kenneth C. Halcom

Partner, Trusts and Estates

Kenneth C. Halcom is a partner in Cravath’s Trusts and Estates Department, where he advises individuals and families on all aspects of estate planning, business succession, and philanthropy.

Mr. Halcom focuses on helping clients create and execute plans that achieve their personal goals while maximizing and protecting their wealth. He advises a number of prominent individuals and families with respect to their privately held businesses, family offices, estate and tax planning, charitable foundations, and personal matters. He has extensive experience employing sophisticated techniques involving wills, trusts, private trust companies, business entities, shareholder agreements, voting trusts, and other legal arrangements and governance tools. As part of his practice, Mr. Halcom regularly represents beneficiaries and fiduciaries with respect to the administration of substantial estates and trusts. When necessary, he represents clients in income, estate, and gift tax audits and disputes.

A significant portion of Mr. Halcom’s practice is devoted to advising clients in their philanthropic endeavors. He has advised clients in connection with substantial charitable gifts and has assisted with the formation and administration of private grantmaking foundations, private operating foundations, charitable supporting organizations, and public charities. In addition, Mr. Halcom counsels charitable organizations on a broad range of matters and is currently a member of the Board of Trustees of the Greenwich Library and the Pinkerton Foundation. He also serves as Junior Warden of Christ Church Greenwich. Mr. Halcom previously served on the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors of the Greenwich Land Trust.

Mr. Halcom is originally from Danville, Illinois. He received a J.D. from the University of Illinois College of Law in 2006, where he was valedictorian and Editor‑in‑Chief of the Law Review. He also earned a Master of Laws in Taxation (LL.M.) from New York University School of Law in 2009. Mr. Halcom joined Cravath in 2006 and became a partner in 2014.
