Kenneth C. Halcom

Partner, Trusts and Estates

Kenneth C. Halcom advises individuals and families on all aspects of estate planning, business succession, and philanthropy. He earns clients’ trust with deep national practice experience, sound commonsense judgment and a simple, practical, solutions-oriented approach.

Mr. Halcom helps clients create and execute plans to achieve their personal goals while preserving and protecting their wealth. He advises many prominent individuals and families with respect to estate and tax planning, privately held businesses, family offices, charitable foundations, and personal matters. He has extensive experience employing sophisticated techniques involving wills, trusts, private trust companies, business entities, shareholder agreements, voting trusts, and other legal arrangements and governance tools. Mr. Halcom regularly represents beneficiaries and fiduciaries with respect to the administration of substantial estates and trusts and, when necessary, he represents clients in income, estate, and gift tax audits and disputes.

Mr. Halcom devotes a significant portion of his practice to advising clients in their philanthropic endeavors. He has advised clients in connection with substantial charitable gifts and has assisted with the formation and administration of private grantmaking foundations, private operating foundations, charitable supporting organizations, and public charities. In addition, Mr. Halcom counsels charitable organizations on a broad range of matters. He currently serves as Junior Warden of Christ Church Greenwich and on the Board of Trustees of the Pinkerton Foundation and the Madison Square Boys & Girls Club. He previously served as Director and Secretary of the Greenwich Land Trust and as Secretary and Trustee of the Greenwich Library.

Mr. Halcom is originally from Danville, Illinois. He received a J.D. from the University of Illinois College of Law in 2006 and a Master of Laws in Taxation (LL.M.) from New York University School of Law in 2009.

Mr. Halcom joined Cravath in 2006 and was elected a partner in 2013.
