Lauren Moskowitz’s Rotation History

“I worked on a number of different matters during my first rotation: motions to dismiss on a series of securities derivative and ERISA litigations, a trade secret case involving statistical arbitrage and a preliminary injunction for what was at the time the largest LBO in history. I also took and defended depositions in a pro bono case involving employment discrimination.

I left Cravath after 15 months for a clerkship that opened up on short notice. When I came back as a third-year associate, I was responsible for expert discovery work for a plaintiff against several activist hedge funds and had the opportunity to take a deposition in that case, and became the lead associate on the Second Circuit appeal following that trial. I also had an opportunity to be part of a trial team on a pro bono Section 1983 jury trial in which I had the opportunity to cross-examine my first witness.

During my fourth year, I was the senior associate on an alien tort statute case that was heading toward trial. I was responsible for running the entire trial team on the associate side. I also worked on an arbitration for a breach of contract, which eventually went to trial and I served as the first chair.

In my next rotation, I worked on a trade secret case, and I was also the senior associate on an RMBS class action in my fifth year. At the high-water mark, we had 40 cases and I was in charge of managing those cases and the entire team of associates. When I made partner, I continued to work on those for quite some time.

One matter that was a particular highlight for me was a pro bono case on which I was the senior associate. I worked on it from start to finish: from the trial court to the Second Circuit Court of Appeals, and finally to the Supreme Court after the other side petitioned for and received certiorari. I was a first-year partner when I briefed and argued that case.

My experience is just one example. Young associates truly do get earlier experience here—I’ve seen it over and over again. There were never many layers between me and the partners with whom I was working, so I was able to receive direct feedback on my work. Cravath is set up to give people those meaningful experiences while ensuring the work is done to the highest standard. ”
