Andy Needham Speaks at PLI Conference

On April 14, 2009, Cravath partner Andrew W. Needham spoke at the Practising Law Institute’s “Taxation of Financial Products and Transactions 2009,” a conference and live webcast in New York City. Andy participated in a panel discussion entitled “Troubled Debt Instruments.” Panelists examined the question of when a taxpayer can stop accruing interest and OID; ordinary bad debt deductions vs. capital losses on debt securities; the question of how market discount rules apply to distressed debt; COD traps; and the importance of payment-ordering rules.
