On November 27, 2016, Lawdragon published a feature highlighting Cravath’s role representing American Express Company in its winning appeal of a trial decision in an antitrust lawsuit filed by the U.S. Department of Justice and 17 state attorneys general over merchant acceptance rules. The article, entitled “Cravath’s Long Road to Justice for American Express,” discussed the Firm’s steadfast approach to defending its client and highlighted the work of Cravath partners Evan R. Chesler, Peter T. Barbur and Kevin J. Orsini in what the article called “a massive victory” for AmEx. In recounting AmEx’s decision to fight the government’s claims and trust Cravath with its defense, the piece remarked that, “time and again, [Cravath] has joined with clients facing the toughest of odds, assessed their chances and strategized a ground war that defines the truest path to success.”
In addition to Evan, Peter and Kevin, the Cravath team advising AmEx included now‑retired partner Stuart W. Gold, senior attorney Jesse M. Weiss and associates Justine V. Beyda, Ryan B. Finkel, M. Deke Shearon, Lauren Roberta Kennedy, Patrick G. Foley, Jun Li, R. Maxwell Tanner, Alexandra N. Rothman, Martha E. Fitzgerald, Peter H. Fountain and Alyssa M. Pompei.
