Dave Kappos Authors Article on Patent Policy and COVID‑19 Vaccines for Bloomberg Law

Cravath partner David J. Kappos and Jonathan M. Barnett, director of the USC Gould School of Law’s Media, Entertainment and Technology Law Program, co‑authored an article entitled “Covid‑19 Vaccine Highlights the Need for Balanced Patent Policy,” which was published to the website of Bloomberg Law on March 16, 2021. The article highlights the importance of building a patent system that promotes innovation, including in the research and development of COVID‑19 vaccines and other developments in the life sciences sector. The authors discuss steps the new presidential administration can take to create a balanced patent policy approach that rewards innovation while continuing to deter abuse.
