Cravath’s London Office Moves to 100 Cheapside
On May 26, 2022, Cravath partner Evan R. Chesler was honored with Chambers USA’s “Lifetime Achievement Award” at the publication’s 2022 Awards, which were held virtually. Evan was recognized for his “incredible” contribution to the law and for his role in representing clients on countless high‑profile litigation matters across industries over decades of legal leadership. The publication noted, “He has been named as an attorney who is unsurpassed in terms of his expertise in litigation, antitrust and business advice. One of the most talented lawyers in America, he has commanded the respect of peers and clients alike over his career and twenty plus years of Chambers rankings.” In his acceptance speech, Evan thanked his colleagues at the Firm, adding, “No one succeeds – and surely no one succeeds for decades – without the commitment, dedication and hard work of the colleagues beside whom they serve their clients. That common service has been the highest honor of my career.”

On April 27, 2022, the Delaware Court of Chancery granted judgment in favor of Cravath client Elon Musk on all counts in a stockholder derivative suit regarding the 2016 acquisition of SolarCity Corp. (“SolarCity”) by Tesla, Inc. (“Tesla”). The Court of Chancery’s 131‑page opinion in favor of Mr. Musk followed a highly publicized 11‑day trial in July and August 2021, and post‑trial briefing and oral argument held in January 2022.

On November 22, 2021, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit affirmed the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York’s dismissal of antitrust litigation brought against Cravath client American Express Company (“Amex”) by a purported class of merchants that do not accept Amex cards but accept Visa, Mastercard and Discover cards.

On February 19, 2021, Oscar Insurance Company voluntarily dismissed with prejudice the appeal of its lawsuit against Cravath clients Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida, Inc., Health Options Inc., and Florida Health Care Plan, Inc. (together, “Florida Blue”), which was pending before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit after Florida Blue won its motion to dismiss the case before the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida on September 20, 2019.

On July 1, 2020, PG&E Corporation and Pacific Gas & Electric Company (together, “PG&E”) announced that PG&E has emerged from Chapter 11, successfully completing its restructuring process and implementing PG&E’s Plan of Reorganization that was confirmed by the United States Bankruptcy Court on June 20, 2020. Cravath has represented PG&E as corporate, financing and litigation counsel in its Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings, as counsel in the arrangement of its Debtor‑in‑Possession financing, committed debt bridge financing, committed backstop equity financing and marketed equity exit financing, and in litigation related to the 2017 and 2018 Northern California Wildfires.
