On December 10, 2018, Cravath was honored by the Financial Times in five categories, including being named as the “Most Innovative Law Firm for Legal Expertise,” as part of the publication’s annual “North America Innovative Lawyers” report. In its coverage of the award, the FT noted that the Firm “stood out for its persistence and ability to help define industries.”
Cravath was also honored as most innovative in the “Dispute Resolution” category for its successful representation of American Express at the United States Supreme Court, which the FT hailed as “validating AmEx’s business model,” following the Firm’s long‑running defense of the company against the Department of Justice’s antitrust lawsuit regarding merchant acceptance rules. In the same category, the Firm was “commended” for its representation of Telia and its subsidiaries in an investigation conducted by U.S., Dutch and Swedish authorities, noting that Cravath helped “to achieve a global single settlement with no additional monitoring requirements.”
In the “Managing Complexity and Scale” category, the Firm was recognized as “standout” for its work on behalf of Altra Industrial in its combination with four operating companies from industrial conglomerate Fortive. In the “Creating a New Standard” category, Cravath was “highly commended” for its representation of German‑based Linde in its $70 billion merger of equals with U.S.‑based Praxair.
