John Buretta Speaks at ACI’s 11th Annual Houston Forum on the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act

On January 31, 2017, Cravath partner John D. Buretta participated in the 11th annual “Houston Forum on the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act,” hosted by the American Conference Institute in Houston, Texas. John spoke on a panel entitled “A Practical Debate on Beneficial Ownership Post‑Panama Papers and Unaoil: How to Identify the True Owners of Your Business Partners.” The session discussed effectively managing beneficial ownership relationships; determining appropriate due diligence to satisfy enforcement agencies and mitigate liability risks; keeping information confidential in compliance with the law; and anticipating the impact of the new beneficial ownership rule, including whom it applies to and what it means for shell companies in the United States.
