Cravath partner David J. Kappos authored an article entitled “The Fraction‑of‑a‑Fraction Problem—Why the Math Doesn’t Support Blaming Drug Patents for the High Cost of U.S. Healthcare,” which was published to the website of IPWatchdog on November 21, 2022. Dave uses government data to argue that, contrary to popular opinion, drug patents contribute minimally to overall U.S. healthcare costs. He concludes that weakening patent protections would not significantly reduce spending and would also cause devastating effects on the long‑term availability of curative and life‑saving drugs for Americans. Lucille Dai‑He also contributed to this article.
