Allison N. Kempf has a broad litigation practice, with particular experience in antitrust, general commercial and intellectual property litigation, as well as regulatory matters and investigations.

Ms. Kempf’s representative matters include:

  • Representation of Illumina in an administrative challenge brought by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) concerning Illumina’s $8 billion acquisition of GRAIL, a healthcare company developing a cancer screening test for 50 cancer types. The FTC’s Chief Administrative Law Judge ruled in favor of Illumina and rejected the FTC’s challenge to the merger.
  • Representation of Alarm.com in several intellectual property matters, including multijurisdictional litigation against Vivint that concerned over 35 patents for interactive security and home automation technology; patent infringement litigation brought by Causam Enterprises concerning patents for electric demand management systems; and patent infringement litigation brought by EcoFactor relating to certain products, among them Alarm.com’s smart thermostats.
  • Representation of Truist Bank in patent infringement litigation brought by United Services Automobile Association (“USAA”) in Texas federal court concerning patents that relate to remote check deposits for mobile banking.
  • Representation of PG&E in connection with investigations and regulatory inquiries by several agencies arising out of the 2017 and 2018 California wildfires.
  • Representation of Novartis Pharmaceuticals in a qui tam action in New York federal court alleging violations of the False Claims Act and Anti‑Kickback Statute.
  • Representation of Nomura International in a consolidated antitrust class action alleging collusion and price‑fixing among numerous financial institutions of supranational, sub‑sovereign and agency bonds (“SSA bonds”), helping to secure a Second Circuit decision affirming the district court’s dismissal with prejudice of the action. 
  • Assisted the compliance monitor for TK Holdings (“Takata”) regarding process safety matters in connection with the recall of certain of Takata’s airbag inflators.

In addition, Ms. Kempf has advised on non-public internal and government investigations concerning the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA), fraud, sanctions and whistleblower allegations. Her work in this area has included representing clients in matters before the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

Ms. Kempf received a B.S.F.S. cum laude from the School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University in 2012, and a J.D. from Harvard Law School in 2017. At Harvard, she was a deputy executive editor of the National Security Journal and a member of the Women’s Law Association.

Ms. Kempf joined Cravath as a summer associate in 2016 and rejoined the legal staff as an associate from 2017 to 2020. After serving as a law clerk to Hon. Eric R. Komitee of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York, she returned to the Firm as an associate from 2021 to 2023. Following her time practicing at a global law firm in New York, Ms. Kempf returned to Cravath as of counsel in 2025.
