Four Decades for Justice
Christopher P. Davis focuses his practice on supporting the Firm’s clients across a broad range of intellectual property and technology issues related to corporate transactions, including mergers and acquisitions, spin‑offs and separations and private equity transactions, as well as complex licensing, technology development and commercial services arrangements in connection with collaborations and joint ventures. Additionally, he advises on litigation matters with a focus on copyright and trademark disputes.
Mr. Davis was born in Evanston, Illinois. He received a B.A. from Cornell University in 2005, an M.S. from Pace University in 2007 and a J.D. cum laude from Harvard Law School in 2014.
Mr. Davis joined Cravath as a summer associate in 2013, worked as a part‑time corporate law clerk from 2013 to 2014 and rejoined the legal staff as an associate from 2014 to 2018. He returned to the Firm in 2021 and was elected of counsel in 2023. Prior to returning to Cravath, he served as in-house counsel for a multinational media and entertainment company in New York.
Mr. Davis was born in Evanston, Illinois. He received a B.A. from Cornell University in 2005, an M.S. from Pace University in 2007 and a J.D. cum laude from Harvard Law School in 2014.
Mr. Davis joined Cravath as a summer associate in 2013, worked as a part‑time corporate law clerk from 2013 to 2014 and rejoined the legal staff as an associate from 2014 to 2018. He returned to the Firm in 2021 and was elected of counsel in 2023. Prior to returning to Cravath, he served as in-house counsel for a multinational media and entertainment company in New York.

(“Viatris”), a global healthcare company, and Idorsia Ltd (“Idorsia”) announced they have entered into agreements for a significant global research and development collaboration under which Viatris will receive exclusive global development and commercialization rights to two Phase 3 assets as well as the potential to add additional innovative assets in the future.

On January 31, 2024, Health Care Service Corporation (“HCSC”), the country’s largest customer‑owned health insurer, announced that it has signed a definitive agreement with The Cigna Group (“Cigna”) to acquire its Medicare Advantage, Medicare Supplemental Benefits, Medicare Part D and CareAllies businesses for a purchase price of $3.3 billion. Cigna’s Medicare plans currently serve 3.6 million Medicare members. Cravath is representing HCSC in connection with the transaction.

On January 29, 2024, Montana Technologies LLC (“Montana Technologies”) announced an agreement to form a joint venture with GE Vernova, a global leader in electrification, decarbonization, and energy solutions, to incorporate GE Vernova’s proprietary sorbent materials into systems that utilize Montana Technologies’ patented AirJoule® dehumidification, air conditioning, and atmospheric water harvesting technology. The joint venture will exclusively manufacture and supply products incorporating the combined technologies to leading original equipment manufacturers and customers in the Americas, Africa, and Australia. Cravath is representing Montana Technologies in connection with the transaction.

On October 20, 2023, White Mountains Insurance Group, Ltd. (“White Mountains”), a Bermuda‑domiciled financial services holding company, announced that it has entered into an agreement to acquire a majority stake in Bamboo Ide8 Insurance Services, LLC (“Bamboo”), a managing general agent focused on the California homeowners insurance market. White Mountains expects to invest approximately $285 million, including primary capital to support Bamboo's growth, and to acquire approximately 70% of Bamboo’s outstanding equity interests. Cravath is representing White Mountains in connection with the transaction.

Kappos and of counsel Christopher Davis participated in the 31st Annual Intellectual Property Law & Policy Conference, which was hosted by Fordham Law School from April 4‑5, 2024 in New York. Dave delivered a presentation entitled “The U.S. IP System Is Under Siege,” which reviewed the IP atmosphere in the U.S., including COVID vaccine IP waivers; COVID therapeutic and diagnostic waivers; accusations of “evergreening” and “patent thickets” in the biopharma area; and standard essential patent rate-setting by the European Union Intellectual Property Office. Chris spoke on a panel entitled “U.S. Copyright Developments,” which examined the future of fair use in light of Andy Warhol Foundation v. Goldsmith, the progress of the Copyright Claims Board and more.
