  • Brookfield Renewable’s strategic partnership with Cameco to acquire Westinghouse for $8 billion;
  • Brookfield Reinsurance’s $4.3 billion pending acquisition of American Equity Investment Life (“AEL”) following the strategic partnership with AEL in which Brookfield acquired a 19.9% stake through a PIPE equity investment;
  • Brookfield Renewable’s $2.8 billion acquisition of Duke Energy Renewables; and
  • Brookfield Renewable’s $1.58 billion acquisition of the remaining stake it did not already own in TerraForm Power.

  • its majority investment in MediaAlpha, the subsequent sale of a significant minority stake to Insignia Capital and MediaAlpha’s $202.1 million initial public offering;
  • the $388 million acquisition of NSM Insurance Group and the $1.775 billion sale of NSM to Carlyle;
  • the acquisition of a $250 million investment in Kudu Investment Management from Oaktree Capital; and
  • the sale of TRANZACT to Clayton, Dubilier & Rice.

• BDT and its affiliates in connection with multiple investment funds and other transactions, including:
  • BDT’s combination with MSD Partners;
  • the formation of BDT Capital Partners Fund 3, which raised $9.1 billion of capital commitments, and BDT Capital Partners Fund II, which raised $6.2 billion in capital commitments;
  • the take-private acquisition of Weber, valuing Weber at $3.7 billion;
  • the minority investment in Pendulum; and
  • the minority investment in a leading real estate asset manager and investments in funds sponsored by this asset manager.
• MSD Partners in a preferred equity investment in the Miami Marlins as part of the $1.2 billion acquisition of the Miami Marlins by an ownership group led by Bruce Sherman and Derek Jeter.
• Owl Rock in its investment in Amergin Asset Management and Fifth Season Investments’ $220 million acquisition of Fifth Season Financial and the life insurance investment assets of Chapford Capital II and Chapford Diversified Strategies Fund.
• D+H in its C$4.8 billion sale to Vista Equity Partners.
• ECN Capital in its investment in Intercoastal Financial Group, its acquisition of Source One and its strategic investment from Skyline Champion.
• Element Financial in its $6.9 billion acquisition of GE Capital’s fleet management operations in the United States, Mexico, Australia and New Zealand.
• Westbrook Partners in connection with multiple investment funds and other transactions, including:
  
  • the formation of Westbrook Real Estate Fund VIII, Westbrook Real Estate Fund IX and Westbrook Real Estate Fund X and their respective co-investment vehicles, consisting of aggregate capital commitments of over $8 billion; and
  • the acquisition and disposition of a portfolio of Ritz‑Carlton and Four Seasons hotels located in Boston, New York, Washington, D.C., Miami and San Francisco and numerous other office, retail and residential investments, as well as the redevelopment of the St. John’s Terminal site located in New York City.

Mr. Perkins has been named a “Dealmaker of the Year” by the New York Law Journal and has been recognized as one of the “500 Leading Dealmakers in America” by Lawdragon. He has been repeatedly recognized by IFLR1000 for his work in both mergers and acquisitions and real estate acquisitions. In 2014, Mr. Perkins was recognized by Law360 as one of 10 outstanding real estate lawyers in the nation under the age of 40 and has also been named a New York Rising Star by Super Lawyers for real estate. Mr. Perkins previously served on the Private Investment Funds Committee of the New York City Bar Association and was selected to serve as a member of Law360’s Private Equity Editorial Advisory Board in 2022.

Mr. Perkins was born in Dover, New Hampshire. He received a B.S. from the United States Military Academy in 1997 where he was a distinguished honor graduate, and a J.D., with high honors, from the University of Washington in 2005 where he was an Executive Editor of the Law Review and was elected to the Order of the Coif.

Mr. Perkins joined Cravath in 2005 and was elected a partner in 2012. Prior to joining Cravath, Mr. Perkins served as an officer in the United States Army in a variety of infantry assignments, including with the 82nd Airborne Division and the 25th Infantry Division, and was later recalled to active duty in 2008 to serve as an embedded advisor to the Afghan National Police in southern Afghanistan, ultimately attaining the rank of Major.
