Nishan Bhaumik serves as Head Pro Bono Counsel, leading and managing the Firm’s pro bono practice, programs and initiatives. In this role, he works closely with legal service organizations and community partners to develop and coordinate pro bono projects. He works with attorneys and legal staff to supervise and ensure the delivery of high‑quality pro bono services. Mr. Bhaumik additionally maintains an active caseload of pro bono matters and develops and conducts training programs for attorneys and legal staff.

Mr. Bhaumik has significant experience handling and coordinating a broad range of pro bono activities in the law firm environment. His own practice includes experience with immigration, domestic violence, veterans’ rights and marriage equality matters, among others. Mr. Bhaumik also is a frequent speaker on pro bono issues.

Mr. Bhaumik was born and raised in California. He received his B.A. in International Relations and in Chinese (Mandarin) in 2009, both from the University of California, Davis. He received his J.D. from City University of New York School of Law in 2015. Mr. Bhaumik has proficiency in Mandarin, Spanish and Bengali.

Prior to joining Cravath, Mr. Bhaumik worked as Pro Bono Counsel for another major law firm in New York, and he previously practiced as an attorney at a number of public interest organizations.

Mr. Bhaumik has significant experience handling and coordinating a broad range of pro bono activities in the law firm environment.
