Cravath’s London Office Moves to 100 Cheapside
On December 12, 2022, Cravath’s antitrust practice was ranked among the “Elite” in Global Competition Review’s 2023 edition of GCR 100, a guide to the world’s leading competition law and economics practices. This is the eleventh consecutive year the Firm has been ranked in the highest tier among New York Firms by GCR. The publication highlighted Cravath’s “bountiful antitrust work,” including its role in securing major victories for clients Louis Dreyfus Company in the denial of the DOJ’s request for an injunction to block its sale of Imperial Sugar Company; Illumina in a groundbreaking trial win rejecting the FTC’s challenge to its $8 billion acquisition of GRAIL; and Qualcomm in a win on appeal which “vacated a ruling that had certified one of the biggest class actions in history.”

On September 23, 2022, the U.S. District Court for the District of Delaware denied the U.S. Department of Justice’s request for an injunction blocking Louis Dreyfus Company LLC’s (“LDC”) sale of the assets and business of its subsidiary Imperial Sugar Company (“Imperial Sugar”) to U.S. Sugar. The District of Delaware’s decision in favor of the Defendants followed a four day trial in April 2022 and post-trial briefing submitted in May 2022.

On September 1, 2022, Chief Administrative Law Judge D. Michael Chappell of the Federal Trade Commission (“FTC”) ruled in favor of Cravath client Illumina, rejecting the FTC’s challenge to Illumina’s $8 billion acquisition of GRAIL, which closed in August 2021.

On September 29, 2021, the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit ruled in favor of Cravath client Qualcomm Incorporated (“Qualcomm”), vacating a class certification order in Stromberg v. Qualcomm, a class action suit that is related to a prior antitrust suit brought against Qualcomm by the Federal Trade Commission (“FTC”), FTC v. Qualcomm. The Stromberg plaintiffs brought antitrust claims against Qualcomm, and the formerly certified class included an estimated 250 million members in the U.S.
