Arbitration (Domestic and International)

Arbitration (Domestic and International)

Cravath frequently and successfully represents U.S. and non-U.S. entities in domestic and international arbitrations involving diverse industries and various areas of the law. Our representations extend to clients in Asia, Europe, Latin America and the Middle East, as well as sovereign nations, often involving multibillion‑dollar disputes.

We have helped clients resolve some of their most complex and high‑stakes legal challenges through arbitration involving contractual disputes; joint ventures (including cross‑border business ventures); transactional issues (including disputes arising out of M&A transactions such as purchase price adjustments and contractual indemnification claims); breach of fiduciary duty claims; and disputes involving patent infringement, licensing agreements and liability insurance coverage.

Our work includes representing clients in disputes administered by various arbitral bodies worldwide, including: International Chamber of Commerce (ICC); American Arbitration Association (AAA); World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO); London Court of International Arbitration (LCIA); United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL); and The International Institute for Conflict Prevention & Resolution (CPR). In addition, our partners and retired partners from time to time are nominated by experienced litigators at other major firms to serve as arbitrators.

Known for having “a strong reputation as a major player” in arbitral proceedings, our experience is rooted in our unparalleled litigation practice representing clients in a range of difficult and critical matters. (The Legal 500 US) Cravath’s generalist litigators think outside the box and apply proactive and creative solutions to complex issues, regardless of the subject matter, industry or client’s role in a particular dispute. We also are frequently retained to “quarterback” our clients’ dispute resolution strategy for matters involving multijurisdictional issues and cross-practice area claims.

Our team has earned recognition from the Financial Times as both “Most Innovative for Dispute Resolution” and “Most Innovative Law Firm for Legal Expertise,” and the credibility, experience and tenacity we bring to each matter give us a strategic advantage in all steps of a proceeding.
