Four Decades for Justice
On December 23, 2015, the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced that Cravath partner John D. Buretta has been selected as the Independent Monitor for Takata and the Coordinated Remedy Program, as part of a settlement agreement concerning Takata’s manufacture and sale of ammonium nitrate airbags.
John, whose prior experience includes serving as a senior official overseeing the Department of Justice’s Criminal Division, will assist in the Coordinated Remedy Program with respect to Takata and all affected vehicle manufacturers, and will enhance and oversee Takata’s safety and compliance programs and other obligations under the NHTSA settlement.

In addition to John, Cravath litigation partners Benjamin Gruenstein and Damaris Hernández are also assisting with the monitorship.
