Trusts and Estates
Cravath’s Trusts and Estates lawyers have served as legal counsel, advisors and trustees to several generations of families who built many of the world’s most important businesses. We continue today to represent domestic and international private clients and their families, including successful entrepreneurs and founders of companies, senior executives and family offices. We help our clients realize their estate planning and philanthropic goals by advising them on the creation and administration of trusts, estates and charitable foundations. We also frequently represent corporate and individual fiduciaries with respect to estate and trust administration.
Our Trusts and Estates Department consists of three partners and a dedicated team of attorneys, fiduciary accountants and paralegals. Consequently, we have experience, depth and resources that are increasingly uncommon among large law firms.
Our Trusts and Estates professionals work seamlessly with the Firm’s other departments when necessary, and we are able to utilize Cravath’s full resources to address the individual needs of our clients. Among the various services we provide for clients are:
- Preparing wills and trust instruments;
- Advising on estate, gift and income tax consequences of a client’s estate plan;
- Fulfilling a wide range of trustee and executor duties, including serving as a trustee and executor, and providing trust and estate administration services and advice;
- Structuring of privately held businesses to achieve appropriate succession plans; and
- Providing estate planning advice in connection with mergers and acquisitions, corporate restructurings and other transactions.
Our discretion and good judgment have earned us the trust of generations of the most successful private clients.

Cravath Tops 2027 Vault Law 100 Ranking of Most Prestigious Law Firms
In April 2026, Vault announced that Cravath was ranked No. 1 on its Vault Law 100, a ranking of the most prestigious law firms across the United States, for the eleventh consecutive year. The results of the annual list are based on surveys of more than 20,000 law firm associates. In publicizing its results, Vault highlighted comments from survey respondents who described the Firm as offering associates “real, hands‑on responsibility” with a “high degree of independence,” the opportunity to engage with work that is “almost entirely substantive” and “predominantly above what I understand is my ‘level’ from an industry standard” and to “build meaningful client relationships from day one.” Respondents were quoted noting Cravath’s “truly outstanding” training system and “very positive” associate‑partner relations. Writes Vault, “Cravath is known as one of the most elite law firms and has a strong reputation for its work in antitrust, banking and credit, capital markets, corporate governance, executive compensation and benefits, general litigation, M&A, securities litigation, tax, trusts and estates, and white collar defense.”

This edition also spotlights several alumni who have gone on to work in venture capital, or at start-ups and other companies navigating territory that comes with new technologies and market dynamics, and includes photos from the Firm’s October 2025 Alumni Reception held at the American Museum of Natural History in Manhattan.

This edition also spotlights the Firm’s antitrust practice and includes photos of the Firm’s new London office, which was recently relocated to 100 Cheapside.
